My philosophy on food...

Eating food is meant to be an enjoyable experience. Food is necessary to nourish and energize our bodies, but eating should also be an experience that brings us pleasure and satisfaction. 

Food brings friends and families together.

Food keeps traditions and cultures alive.

Food gives energy, life, nourishment, and wellbeing.

Food can be fun, sexy, artistic, comforting, and just fucking delicious.

Unfortunately, so many of us miss out on the simple pleasures of food because we are too busy worrying about what it will do to our waistline.

We have become so consumed with counting the calories of each morsel of food we put into our mouths, with tracking the macronutrients we are ‘allowed’ to have for the day, with eating in restrictive ways; tricking ourselves into feeling satisfied, and with how each inch of our bodies look in the mirror; pinching and prodding at areas we wish didn’t exist.

Your relationship with food and your body does not have to be this way.

Healing your relationship with food and your body will allow you to begin healing your gut as well as your emotional and spirtual wellbeing. While it may seem that the food you eat and your physical body are completely seperate from your emotions and spirituality, in truth they are all deeply intertwined. You may think you are struggling with strictly losing weight or just your eating habits, but you will discover there is a much deeper connection and experience the healing across all areas of your life.

Our gut is at the center of everything and not only food gets digested here. The digestive system is constantly digesting nutrients, emotions, events, and environments. Gut health is a key indicator of overall health. Learn how to heal and listen to your gut.
Nourishment
While food is essential to nourish our bodies in a physical way, being truly nourished goes beyond the plate. How you nourish your mind and soul is just as important as using functional nutrition to provide you with complete nourishment.
Emotional Mastery
Learn how to master your emotions and actions through awareness and intention.
Discernment
Cultivate the discernment to recognize what is in alignment with your best and highest good. Learn to choose what you consume (food, media, energy, etc.) from a place of discernment.

A little about my story...

I remember the guilt and shame felt with each bite as I binged late at night, thinking I should just never eat again. I struggled with my weight for most of my life, which also meant I struggled to love myself and my body. I became a professional dieter and wore that badge of pride each time I silently starved my body and lost weight. I was on my first diet when I was 12. My dieting quickly morphed into disordered eating  patterns coupled with body dysmorphia through my adolescence and into early adulthood.

I had a love/hate relationship with food (more love though!) and initially found a passion for cooking. I attended culinary school at age 17 and later spent 6 years working as a dietary aid, line cook, executive chef, and a dining services director in senior living communities. I worked closely with clinical staff and became well-versed in therapeutic diets and modifying meals to meet dietary requirements while keeping them delicious.

My love for food grew as I began to study nutrition. I explored different diets that focused on health as I tried to address the health issues I was experiencing. I experimented with several restricting diets while also exploring the world of fitness and becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. 

Name a health fad diet, I’ve probably tried it…raw food diets, low-fat plant based diets, cutting out gluten, high protein diets, high antioxidant diets, counting macronutrients, carb cycling, and cutting out all animal products and declaring myself vegan. I found some relief from the health issues I was experiencing, but looking back I was missing the big picture.

Even with my focus on my health, I still was CONSUMED with my weight, how my body looked, and how much weight I needed to lose. I tracked everything I ate and meticulously calculated what I was allowed to have so I could lose 2 pounds a week; punishing myself each time I just couldn’t stick to the plan, blaming my lack of willpower for each failure.

After two pregnancies turned my life upside down, I put a lot of pressure on myself to get my ‘old body’ back. Following years of criticizing my body and willpower, I unconsciously let go of my body expectations simply because I didn’t have the time or energy to focus on myself in any way. With a newborn and a 3-year-old I was in survival mode raising my two amazingly wild boys. I gave up on diets and watched my weight fluctuate with the stressors in my life while I ate mindlessly.

The shift...

After the universe gave me a huge wake-up call,  I began exploring mindfulness practices and what it meant to be mindful in hopes to reduce the anxiety and overwhelm I was feeling from the demanding schedule of being an executive chef, mother, and wife,

New doors opened as others shattered and I was seeing life completely differently. I incorporated mindfulness practices into my daily routine and fully embraced being a mindful and intuitive eater. How I viewed the world and myself began to change. I healed from past traumas that I didn’t realize still had a hold on me. I gained love and respect for myself and my body for the first time. My love/hate battle with food dissipated. I was trusting my body and listening to what it needed. Without effort my body adjusted to it’s natural weight and I felt truly comfortable and in-tune with my own body. Everything shifted.

I made huge changes in my life to align with the new way I was feeling. I let go…of a lot! 

I said PEACE OUT to  my negative thoughts and limiting beliefs that were holding me back from being the highest version of myself. And I said HELL YES to giving my everything to living a fulfilling, present, and mindful life.

I want you to feel this same shift. I want you to feel the same freedom. To feel the same love. And to finally ENJOY the food you eat and the body you live in. I believe in taking a holistic approach to overall wellness. When we focus on the mind, body, and soul together, we achieve a nourishment that leaves us feeling balanced as a whole. Being well is about so much more than just the food on your plate.
